aiReceptionist vs AnswerConnect
AnswerConnect is a 24/7 human answering service that has pledged to keep bots out of the call; aiReceptionist answers with software for a fraction of the per-minute cost and hands the calls that need a person to one.
AnswerConnect sells live, human receptionists working from home across the United States, and it says so plainly: "People, Not Bots". That makes this an honest comparison rather than a feature race, the question is which calls you want a person on, and what each minute of that costs.

When AnswerConnect is the better choice
AnswerConnect is the better choice when you want a human voice on every call and are prepared to pay a human rate for it. Its receptionists can chat with a nervous first-time caller, absorb a complaint, or handle a question that was never in the brief, and because a person is already on the line, there is no hand-off moment at all. If your callers are mostly older, mostly anxious, or mostly calling about something that went wrong, that matters more than the per-minute price.
It is also the right pick if you specifically do not want AI on your phones. AnswerConnect has made that a public pledge, and a business that shares the view should take them at their word rather than compromise with us. And if you want website live chat staffed by people, that is included on their Growth and Standard plans and is on our roadmap, not our price list.
What switching actually involves
- Check your AnswerConnect billing cycle: their contracts roll monthly and can be changed at any time, so time the switch to the end of a cycle.
- Export what matters from the AnswerConnect app, recent messages and any script notes, so nothing lives only in their portal.
- Give the receptionist the same brief your desk has: what you do, your hours, what to capture, and which calls must reach a person.
- Decide where escalations go, your mobile, a colleague, or a human desk you keep as the backup for the calls software should not take.
- Run both side by side for the trial and compare the call summaries and transcripts with the messages you get today.
- Move the forwarding once you are satisfied. Your number does not change.
Questions people ask
- Is aiReceptionist a human answering service like AnswerConnect?
- No. AnswerConnect puts a live receptionist on every call and has pledged to keep AI off them. aiReceptionist answers with software and transfers the calls that need a person to one you name.
- How do the per-minute costs compare?
- AnswerConnect lists $2.50 per additional minute on its Entry plan and $1.85 on Growth and Standard. Our additional minutes are $0.60 on DIY and SMB and $0.50 on Enterprise. Included minutes differ too: 200 for $350 on their Entry plan against 200 for $99 on our DIY plan.
- Does AnswerConnect charge a setup fee?
- Their Entry and Standard plans list a $49.99 setup fee; Growth lists none. We list no setup fee.
- Can I keep a human desk for some calls?
- Yes. Many customers keep a human answering service for the calls they do not want software to handle and put the AI in front of it. Escalation destinations are yours to set.
- What about HIPAA?
- AnswerConnect says you can set your answering service to be HIPAA-compliant in its online portal. We do not publish a HIPAA compliance statement today, so a practice handling protected health information should look at our partner desks instead.
- Is there a long-term contract with either?
- AnswerConnect describes monthly rolling contracts you can change at any time. Our plans are monthly with no long-term contract.
