Embedded receptionist

An embedded receptionist is the same AI receptionist placed inside a business’s own website or portal through a JavaScript integration, so visitors can talk to it without dialing a number.

Also called: JavaScript embed, website receptionist widget, in-app receptionist

A phone number reaches people who call. An embed reaches people who are already on the site: the visitor on the pricing page at 11pm, the customer inside a client portal. The receptionist appears as a button or panel, and the conversation runs over the browser rather than the phone network.

The embed shares the persona, knowledge base and workflow of the phone receptionist, so the answers are the same on both. What differs is the channel: voice over the internet, chat, or both, and the fact that the business controls the page around it.

Because it runs inside the business’s own pages, an embed raises the questions any third-party script does: consent, what it stores, and how it behaves for visitors who decline.
