Custom integration

A custom integration is a connection between a receptionist and a business’s own systems that the provider builds and maintains, rather than one the business assembles from a template, a webhook or an automation platform.

Also called: built-for-you integration, managed integration, bespoke integration

Most integrations are self-built: the business connects a Zap, points a webhook at an endpoint it runs, or maps fields in a template. A custom integration flips the responsibility. The business describes what should move and when; the provider writes the connection against the business’s systems, tests it, and keeps it working when those systems change.

It is the usual answer for software nobody else uses, a dispatch board, an in-house booking system, a database with no public API, and for businesses with no developer on staff. It can run after the call, during it, or both.

The trade-off is dependence: changes go through the provider, and the service is typically sold on the plans that include set-up with a team. The label to look for is who maintains it, not what it connects to.
