Calendar booking
Calendar booking is the ability to check availability in a calendar and reserve a slot for a caller during the conversation.
Also called: appointment booking, calendar integration
The receptionist reads free/busy information from a connected calendar (Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, or a scheduling tool such as Calendly), offers the caller suitable times, and writes the appointment back once they choose.
Because it needs live availability, booking is inherently a real-time integration: reading the calendar after the call would be too late. Confirmation to the caller, by SMS or email, is usually a post-call step.
Things to decide up front include buffer times between appointments, which calendars count as "busy", how far ahead bookings may be made, and what happens if two callers try to take the same slot at once.
