Portal voice assistant

A portal voice assistant is a conversational helper inside a product’s customer portal. It answers questions about the product and walks the user through setup and configuration by voice.

Also called: in-app voice helper, setup assistant

Self-serve products lose customers at the blank-canvas moment, the point where the user has to configure something and does not know where to start. A voice assistant in the portal replaces reading documentation with asking: "how do I forward my number?", "set my hours to nine to five".

It is a separate agent from the receptionist that answers customers’ calls, with a different job and, usually, a different name, so that "the AI" is not ambiguous in support conversations.

What it may change (as opposed to explain) is a design decision: a read-only assistant is safe but limited; one that can edit settings needs confirmation steps and an audit trail.
